Royal Garrision Artillery was one of the elements of what became the royal Artillery. The RGA was originally a defensive force at Army Garrisons, but became more active in WW!. Essentially, the siege battery had high calibre (typically 6") howitzers which fired shells at relatively low velocity and at a high angle, typically firing over the heads of the front line troops at the enemy lines.
